The article reviews the importance of the oral microbiome in companion animals, specifically in cats, and how dietary interventions before the weaning period can shape the oral bacteria population. They evaluated samples of plaque obtained ant birth and during the pre-weaning period and found that the predominant phyla remained as such but relative loads changed with age.
